3F Christian Mark Chang Kah Fai (06)

What you see is what was left of the class till 9pm to finish packing our "cupcakes with love" for the needy children in Singapore. We baked these cupcakes and packed them with love, sweat and constant toiling. After much of the class left as it was quite late, a few of my fellow classmates stayed back to complete the packing of approximately 500 cupcakes which were to be sold the nest day, Teacher's Day. Each of our cupcakes was baked ever so carefully under the constant supervision of Mdm Tang and Miss Janice who did their part by helping us too.

The next day, we delivered our petite cupcakes to students and teachers who had bought them and the smile on their faces when they saw the cupcakes made me feel that it was all worth it. I was to deliver cupcakes to Mr Low, our principal who was really proud of us. As i walked with my friends to give out the cupcakes, many people saw it and they went to our booth to do their part for charity and bought our extra cupcakes.

Through this service learning, I have changed my attitude in which I saw the poor people. Knowing how they survive on S$1 a week without daily necessities really shocks me as I know I would not be able to do that. In addition, I feel proud of myself and my fellow classmates as we have achieved what we had planned to do even to those who did not turn up to bake, they did their part by helping to give out the cupcakes. Children who are born into less well off families may not have the luxuries we have but I am sure that through our project, we have at least helped to provide for them for a while.

The best thing that happened was when I saw all my classmates present putting all their heart and soul into the baking, packing and transportation even though they had tight schedules. I learnt from this that perseverance pays off and that when we have so many friends to do this together, its really enjoyable. I did not have any bad experiences as we worked as one with no fights, quarrels or bickering.

In the near future, I hope to act as a volunteer in as many charitable projects or organisations as possible as I have done so before when I was younger as doing this bring me happiness and is a constant reminder to met that I should never take things for granted.
