3F Muhammad Syazwan (27)

For my class's Service Learning project, we baked cupcakes to sell and raise funds for the straits times charity. Also, we decided to sell the cupcakes during Teachers' Day for students to give to their teachers. As we had no idea how many cupcakes to bake initially, we took orders from each class. Also, there were some teachers who ordered too and we received a huge order for the entire staff of Tampines North Primary School. That really boosted the moral of the class for having such support from Mrs Low. We baked the cupcakes at the home economics room and packaged the freshly baked cupcakes by ourselves with the guidance of our teachers.

After the service- learning experience, it really opened my eyes that even as 15-year-olds, we can make a difference in the community by raising funds for charity. The experience really changed my thinking that as long as we are willing to work for it, we can contribute something good in society.

The best thing was tasting our delicious cupcakes! We could really make it as a business. The worst part was of course that the packaging took until 8pm and those who stayed back should be proud of themselves. They really persevered and are true professionals for seeing the job through the end. From these experiences, I learnt that the sacrifices that people make may not always get rewarded but knowing that you did something good is good enough.

I do not see myself participating in a project a massive as this one but I will still continue to donate an help if I am able. It is because I do not have the passion that other volunteers have which is very crucial as being involved in the community requires a lot of time and energy.
